Please stop thinking Photoshop is the only digital art product in existence — sincerely a digital illustrator

A variety of digital illustration equipment with a coffee cup organized in an aesthetically pleasing way

I have been illustrating for about the past thirteen years of my life. I started with a plain old pen and pencil. For about seven of those years, I have been doing digital illustration as well. It’s been one heck of a rollercoaster finding my favorite programs and settling into them.

As someone who doesn’t use Adobe products, it is incredibly frustrating scrolling through clients looking for illustrators. Why? Adobe has successfully monopolized the business with clients — making them believe they are the only “good” program in existence for this type of art. This is a flat-out lie. …

Sometimes you just gotta cut it out, the story of me cutting out my half sister

A young woman looking at her smart phone with a faded red tint to the image

I never had much of a relationship with my old half-sister. She is in her late 40s and cut out my father from her life. I happened to find her on social media a few years ago and attempted to start a conversation with her. Besides learning what her likes and dislikes were, I also was trying to piece together what exactly had happened between her and my Dad. The short version? …

The horror of the beauty industry

My macabre love for the beauty and fashion industry started when I was a teenager. Beforehand, I never really had two thoughts about it. Was I bullied in school for how I dressed (among other things)? Yes, but mostly because I was “the new kid” because my family happened to move every few years (because of Dad’s sales consult job for a big company). However, outside of the bullies, the world of beauty never really caught my eye. I only got started because my Mom thought a modeling class might be a fun thing to do.

I fell in love…

As someone with 2 eating disorders and a complicated history with food in general, this is absolutely HORRIFYING to think about.

The controversial pain management technique in medicine

Before going into this article, I want to give my readers a background from where I am coming from with this article — I worked in a pain clinic for six months, I have chronic joint pain myself, I currently work in the medical-legal field, and I seriously considered becoming a chiropractor at one point in my life. More on that later.

Whenever someone mentions the word “chiropractor” online, it’s often met with harsh hostility. …

June Osborn and Emily Malek characters sitting on steps during the daytime
June Osborn and Emily Malek characters sitting on steps during the daytime

It is impossible to really talk about season 4 without mentioning spoilers because a lot happens in this season, despite only being ten episodes long. So for that reason, I am giving a spoiler warning for the entire season.

This season, oh boy, a lot happens. June makes it to Canada, but many of her handmaid friends die. Janine gets captured and sent back to Gilead (we also see more of Janine’s backstory). Ms. Keyes (a wife they run into in the countryside) gets captured and turns into a handmaid. June is involved with the Canadian legal system while the…

The 1990s generation (those who are currently between the ages of 22–31) have it rough right now. Beyond rough. I was born in ’94, right about in the middle of this generation. We grew up in a period where technology accelerated extremely quickly (look at video games and computers for example, later on, phones as well). We grew up in a period full of optimism (“Go to school, you’ll get a job of your choosing no problem!”). Then adult life came crashing in and we suddenly realized how truly screwed we were as a generation.

Most of us in this…

The Handmaid’s Tale isn’t afraid to tackle the primal side of survivors of abuse

A close up of June Osborn in The Handmaid’s Tale trailer for season 4

Preface: I will do my best to avoid major spoilers with season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale. However, since this season is currently ongoing as of the writing of this episode, it is likely that not all viewers are caught up to the latest episode, s4e8, so please read on with caution if you are not yet caught up.

I have survived numerous types of abusive relationships in my own history. However, I grew up in a home that was not emotionally healthy. I had suppressed, a lot. I grew up being taught that anger was a ‘bad’ emotion and…

LGBTQ in the anime community

A pool of water with rainbow coloring and ripples in the water

I’m 27 years old and have been watching all kinds of anime since I was a young child. Do the math, I’m a mid-1990s baby. With that being said, we have come a very long way in regards to authentic representation for the LGBTQ community. I will not be discussing “sex anime” (aka “hentai”) in this article.

I have been established on Byte for about a year now. I got a question. Us Byters are very concerned about the fate of Byte. I understand that you're trying to combine Byte and Clash, but at the end of the line, what's going to happen to the Byte app? The forums were shut down. We are very worried that you all are going to perma-delete byte and force us over to Clash.

Many apps in the years of the internet have been bought out by larger companies and later shut down. We on Byte are terrified that is going…
